Rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness deserve to be protected and respected. Such rights and liberties protect you and your loved ones from being mistreated by others and promote equality for all regardless of different characteristics, genetic information, sex, race, age, disability, national origin, and beliefs.

The right to due process- You have the right to due process under the law. This also includes being protected against governmental deprivations of life, liberty, and property. 

The right to privacy- You have the right to your privacy which includes your private information. This right provides protection should private information which will damage your personal or professional reputation is released to the public. 

The right to freedom of speech- You have the right to freedom of speech. You are protected against the government should you be punished or wrongfully terminated at your job for speaking out on public matters.

The right to be protected from the excessive use of force- You have the right to be protected from excessive force and deadly force, whether that is from police brutality or false arrest. 

The right to free exercise of religion -You have the right to practice the religion of your choice 

The right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment – During the criminal process if you are held in jail, you have the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment

Civil rights and civil liberties are covered under the law and protected at the state and federal level. Yet, both are very different as civil rights protect individuals from being unfairly treated based on different characters or beliefs whereas civil liberties such as freedom of speech and the right to vote are guaranteed by the Constitution and federal laws. 

You are granted these rights and liberties just because you exist. Yet, the process to file a claim for violations of such rights and liberties can be complex.
